From Awkward To Art's first year of Blogging!
And Guess what?! Tuesday is My Blogiversary!

January- Stuck In A Rut
After years of depression, and even more years of not realizing who I was, I am finally
realizing that God has placed unique gifts inside of me and I simply want to be ME,
the ME who He had created me to be, not who people think I should be.

February- Coffee Talk: Joy Vs Depression
After having gone through severe depression, I now learn to catch myself when I feel those feelings
coming back. I've learned that even though it can still be a struggle some days, there is only one
way to gain true peace in my mind.

 March- Mommy Blues
Leila had to have surgery earlier this year and it was one of the most heartbreaking
days of my life. Actually seasons of my life, because it was dental surgery, due to Carries
Disease ( rapid decay of a childs teeth). As a mother, I blamed myself. I still do.

April- Being A Preachers Kid
There are some things you can be born into, that you simply don't learn until you have the chance to
experience life yourself. Just because I am a preachers kid and mentally knew scripture in my
head doesn't mean it was reality to me. It wasn't a reality until that day I really needed help.

 May- Dear Chicago Part II
Living an hour outside of Chicago, makes road trips or train trips really easy and fun.
Two of my favorite have been the two times we went there to see my favorite band,
The Cranberries. Just sharing some photos from our latest trip.

June- Your Garbage, Your Heart
One of my biggest pet peeves is people who share negative, complainy, gossipy garbage and propaganda on the internet and on facebook. Anything of a negative or gossipy nature tend to drive me crazy. What we fill our eyes & ears with will eventually become a part of who we are
and what we say.

July- I Thought Thats What Bloggers Did
My most popular & most commented post all year! A sorta sassy, semi humorous look at all the things we do to get people to like us. Namely, things that I have done to fit in the "blog world."

August- Wish You Were Here
Taking a break from my 6 week blog break to share some photos from a simple Wisconsin
vacation with my family.

September- One Girl. Two Vlogs
Emotional and slightly embarrassing, I pour my heart out with two separate vlogs this month.
Tears and all, I share my story, where I have come from, hoping to be an inspiration to those that
have walked in my shoes.

 October- A New Chapter
Starting a new chapter in my blog as I watch it to go from something I had no clue about to
something with more intentional purpose. A new name, design & purpose.

November- The Things We Cannot Change
Sometimes we simply need strength to accept those things about life or the people in our lives that
we cannot change. There are things we can change that can better our lives, but when it comes
to other people, or particular situations we have no control over, we simply have to learn to
accept it is what it is and pray for strength to move on and be happy.

December- When Words Are Just Words
Some words are just words. Some quotes are just quotes by mere humanity.
And while they may be inspiring, there are other words that we are meant to live by.
These are the only words that have the power to change lives & bring healing.

Christmas Tradition/ Girl Behind The Blog

(First of all, I am lame and posted this on Tuesday night thinking the Girl Behind The Blog
went live on Wednesday and I just realized it goes live on Friday. Oh well. I'm leaving it.
And when 5ohWifey & The Williams Post actually do go live, this is who I will be linking up with.

Ok, carrying on...

I just got home from a fun evening at my sisters house.
She invited myself and my girls over....along with my mom for a girls night.
Dinner and a Christmas movie. I am tired and exhausted and still, like everyone else,
have a long week ahead of me, and I had contemplated skipping this round of
Girl Behind The Blog...
but I gave in, so here I am...talking about our Christmas Traditions with my
very favorite Christmas song playing in the background!
Hope you enjoy!

And if you haven't yet, stop by my post below and play my very own

These Days I am Consumed with Cuteness

I don't know about you, but I've been busy.
Parties and Christmas Programs and time with my family...
And I've been working on decorating for another party coming this weekend.
I am sorta scattered and all over the place, but am still remaining unusually calm.
And I plan to stay this way for a long time.

I have three little people in my life that have been consuming a lot of my attention lately.
I mean, they always did because really is there any other choice?
But sometimes it is by circumstance, not by choice.
And now as I sit here typing, with one daughter crawling on my back,
and another talking to me about Home Alone,
I tell myself to stop, get off the computer and pay attention to them
by choice.

So, that's what I am going to go do...

But of course I had to leave you with all the cuteness in the world,
so you can see why I must now get off this computer.

This little girl, 3 yrs old just told me yesterday,
"That's Justin Beiber! My Boy."

Ahhhh, life with girls. Of course, I can't say that I haven't encouraged it. ;)

Hello, ladies! If you missed it last week, here's the Mixer's latest big news:

Dear sweet mommas of the Mommy-Brain Mixer,

I have such mixed feelings tonight as I write this! I have decided to step down from hosting the Mommy-Brain Mixer , as I have realized within the last couple of weeks that blogging and all the extras that come with it are keeping me from being the best mommy to my sweet littles and wife to my husband.

Being a mom is my passion, and my eyes have been opened to the fact that I've been slacking in the last couple of months. Not only has this affected my precious family, but it has affected me - I've been unhappy and depressed knowing that my blog life has been so alive, yet my home life has been suffering so!

Therefore, I've decided to give up quite a few "extras" of blogging for now and go back to the root that I love so much - writing. Unfortunately, this means giving up one of my other babies - the Mommy-Brain Mixer!

The great news is - the Mommy-Brain Mixer will continue to thrive!

Sweet, wonderful Jelli from Jellibean Journals has agreed to take over the Mixer and give it the TLC it deserves! Beginning on January 3, 2013, the Mommy-Brain Mixer will take place at Jellibean Journals (the Mixer will take December 27th off for Christmas week). More wonderful news: Cassie from Live.Laugh.L0ve will be staying on as co-host!

Are you scheduled as a future co-host? No worries! You may have missed the email we just sent stating that Jelli is keeping all co-hosts exactly where you are! She will be contacting you as your date draws closer!

The Mommy-Brain Mixer was created with great care and a wild passion for motherhood, and will continue in the same way! I'll definitely be seeing you there when I'm able, sweet ladies!

P.S. - I'll still be blogging... don't stop coming over to read my mommy posts and leave your comments that I so adore!

Name That Christmas Movie Game!

Hey friends!

I bet you all have some Christmas Parties coming up in the next few weeks!
Yep, me too! Every year it is my job to come up with some new, fun games for
Christmas Party in the youth ministry at my church!
Last year I made this one up! And we used it again this year!
It's timeless!
And fun!
And something different than the same ole, same ole!

If you want to grab it to challenge your family & friends with some
Christmas Movie Trivia without doing all the work, then Merry Christmas!
This is my gift to you! ;)
Feel free to download or save it to your computer & convert to dvd or a video file
or whatever you want to do for your Christmas Party this year!

...Or just play it for yourself!
Chances are, since you are playing it online, you will have time to 'think' about it,
but when you play it with a group, its not quite as easy to think of the answers so quickly.

1) Number a paper 1-20
2) Watch (listen) to the video and Name that Christmas Movie that each sound bite came from!
3) Then just replay it, this time giving the answers as you go through the game!
I already did all the work for you!

If you would like me to email you the answers so you can challenge your family,
leave me a comment and let me know you love it and I will send the answers your way!
Make sure I can reply back to you somehow!

All sound bites came from various movie clips which do not own any copyright to
Background photo file found here . I just put it all together as a game.

Congrats to Niki from Glossy Blonde for winning the Our Favorite Thing Giveaway!
Shoot me an email, Niki!

Twenty Little Lives

Today I think of all the times my kids left for school and I didn't give them a
hug or kiss before they left, didn't even say goodbye...
and then I think of all the parents that may have been in a rush Friday morning,
hurrying their kids along, maybe stopping a fight with a sibling,
fussing over what they were wearing or rushing them to eat breakfast...
How many times have I done that?
Thinking that after school, they could hug them, take them to do pictures with Santa,
or perhaps next week they would be opening their Christmas gifts together,
excited to see the precious excited smiles on their kids faces.
When I think of those surrounding children, the fear and the 'in your face' reality
that these tiny lives had to face, that most of us as adults have never had to face...
It's not something that can be ignored.
I wanted to prolong writing the inevitable in hopes I could come up with anything
that could make sense of the pain these families are facing this afternoon.
And we know that tragedy is a daily thing in our world and that lives are
lost daily and more than twenty were lost yesterday,
but suddenly we can't close our eyes...
because it involved so may innocent precious little lives,
twenty little lives
We can get angry, we can cry, we can question, we can hug our kids more,
tell them one more time that we love them...
and I have done all the above several times in the past 24 hours...

but the most important thing we can do right now is pray...

Hug your kids once more today
Tell your spouse once more that you love him or her
Stop doing the dishes for 5 minutes to tickle you son
Or laugh & play dress up with your daughter
Call your mom or dad up and maybe stop in for a visit
Have a family movie night
Make cookies together
Make right the wrongs
Forgive the offenses
Ask forgiveness from those you've hurt

Yes, do it all. Make sure the people you love know that you love them...
We never know what tomorrow holds.

But before you do
and after you do,
keep praying for these precious families
who didn't have that chance...
My heart & tears weep for these.

When Words Are Just Words...

I'm in this weird, 'I have no words' place again.
What's up with me? I don't know.
It's odd, I feel so full. Full of passion. Warmth. Joy.
I feel content this year.
And it's not because everything is going just as I would plan out in my head.
But still, this season in this year, 2012, is bringing a new emotion,
state of mind... or maybe a state of heart?
It's not just Christmas, the season of giving and family and love.
But it's Christmas,
a season of redemption,
God's gift to the world.
Man, I feel like we make it into this cliche' thing...
'Jesus is the reason for the season'...
It's what people say.
Or we have even turned it into
'It's not about the shopping & the gifts, it's about family and spreading joy.'
Another "thing" we say.
Which is good. It's a good thing to steer our focus from the commercialism
of Christmas rather to the warmth and love of the season.
But for me, it's more than that.
This Christmas, I stand...sit...weep in awe of my Savior, his sacrifice to
become flesh to redeem me from a life I would surely screw up...
and have...
to make me joint heirs with him.
Once you know Him, it's not just a Christmas story..
Instead your heart is moved by a very real love...
One time, I remember mentioning to an old friend during a conversation,
'the men of the Bible wrote these words."
The reply I got was "I'm glad you said the 'men' of the Bible..."
As if the words written were not inspired of God.
It takes faith to believe in the written word of God.
When you believe, and when you want to believe, God will speak...
He will prove, He will make himself real...
as if He hasn't already.

People would rather rely on quotes from intellectuals,
or structure their lives by the lyric from of a song or poetry of a writer
who knows nothing of a true relationship with the God they over philosophize,
than rely on the intimate peace and gentle simplicity of the words of God himself.
I don't know...lack of faith...
or perhaps faith in the temporal is more real to some...
But to me, each day I wake up, no matter what the circumstance is in my life
in the day, that moment, that feeling...
the presence of Jesus is undeniable. His glory is indescribable.
This is the reason for no words I think.
I went for a drive tonight, feeling frustrated that I can't put what is my heart
into words...I prayed, I said "God, what is it? What am I feeling?
What am I supposed to say??
It's simple. There are no real actual words to describe what you feel in
your heart of hearts.
It's just something you know... something you feel...
once you have faith that He is with you,
and that His words are truth.
I was going through pinterest looking at quotes of so many inspiring authors,
men and women of influence, musicians, and listening to lyrics...
thinking about how people thrive on these quotes & sayings... but as inspiring as they may be,
we can not live, truly live , by anything but the very words of God.
The words of God are not just the quotes of an intellectual,
but the word of God is alive and has the ability to change a heart,
and heal and restore lives.
Sometimes words are just words, but there are other words that are Life.

1 John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory,
the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

This is what Christmas means to me this year.
The very presence & word of God coming to earth and becoming flesh. Redeeming mannkind.
Sometimes it seems unfathomable, it doesn't make sense.
It takes faith to believe. Strength to trust in his word.
But once you believe, it's not just a belief anymore, it's an assurance...
And my heart is in such a state of worship lately. It's a continual worship
of the glory and majesty of such a loving Savior...
I very honestly try to talk to Him in my very human words...
and thank him for who He is and what He has done,
but it simply doesn't seem like what I can say in my humanity is enough to
worship his Majesty...

Yet somehow, I think not knowing what to say this Christmas is saying more than thinking
I have all the right words...

An Itch I Need To Scratch

I have an itch I need to scratch...
Can anyone guess what it is?

 Baby One 2003

Baby Two 2005

Baby Three 2009

Let's face it. I'm not getting any younger. If I'm gonna do this, it better happen quickly.
Someone told me last summer something that stuck with me...
"You will never regret having another one, but you might regret NOT having another one."
That really stuck with me.

Baby Four
To be continued...in 2013...hopefully.

Children are a heritage of the Lord, offspring are a reward from him. Like arrows in the
hand of a warrior are children born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver
is full of them...Psalms 127:3-5

I want my quiver to be full ;)

I Gave Myself A Black Eye: 50 Shades Of Stupid 6

Yes, it's true. I did this to myself.
But at least I got a sassy picture out of it in a dirty mirror.
This happened summer of 2011. I was at church. Yep.
And my brother at that time was the official "cleaner" of said church.
But he was on the road with his band, so my mom asked me if I wanted to
take on the responsibility for a few weeks and I did.
So I'm vacuuming. Who would think that you could give yourself a black eye
while vacuuming a church?
According to the Fire Department there are certain double doors that are to
remain open at all times, and certain one that are to remained closed at all times.
Ahhhh, the technical side of the ministry.
So what happened was, on the back of one set of doors there was a metal chain
with a magnet attached to the end of it. The magnet was about he size of a hockey puck.
The chain linked the door to the wall, so that people would not close the door,
thank you Mr. Fireman.
Yes, there is a sign. But I'm the Pastors daughter, I don't pay attention to signs.
Psssshhhh...

So, I'm working hard...um...for the Lord, vacuuming and naturally, I want to clean thoroughly,
even behind the doors, the ones with magnets and chains attached.
Despite the sign (because I wasn't paying attention), I yanked on the door and the
2 foot chain with the hockey puck sized magnet whipped around the door and wacked me
right above my eye. Blood gushing, I ran upstairs and by the time I got up there
I had a giant lump already.
Needless to say within the day, I had one very purple eye.
Lucky for me I wear purple shadow and nobody even noticed once the lump went down.
So that wasn't so much embarrassing as it was just stupidity on my part...
Has anyone else every seriously injured themselves due to negligence?

50 Shades: HOLIDAY EDITION
And here is a little Holiday Stupidity for ya...
So at my church, I volunteer a lot of time making flyers, web banners, hanging banners...
all that kind of stuff.
The thing is that I do that all at home on my computer, which of course I also do my blogging.
And if you are anything like me, you know that you need "QUIET" to concentrate.
If my kids are talking to me, crawling up my back, asking me for food, etc while I am
trying to get computer work done, I simply quit. It doesn't work well for me.
I need peace in order to concentrate.
Unfortunately a lot of times when I am asked to make something and send it out to be printed,
it is sort of on the rush, therefore kids crawling or not, it has to be done by tonight.
So this past monday, I made up some tickets for our Christmas Program at church,
sent them out to have 1000 printed, got a call from the printing company saying the dpi was
too low, so I fixed them, double checked the back of the ticket with all the info on it
to make sure everything was correct and sent it back to them again!
Yep, looks good! I just missed one MAJOR thing...
Can you find the mistake?
The really dumb thing is that the basic jist of this ticket has been up on our church website for
a few weeks and neither I nor anyone else caught the screw up, of course until after I
had 1000 of these babys printed out and sent to us.
You have no idea how stupid I felt. Especially when the mistake was noticed by our church secretary the night before, so they decided NOT to hand the tickets out, then at the last minute before service ended, my sister got up and said to the congregation as she looked on ONE side of the ticket "I guess they thought there was a mistake, but there isn't any mistake, so lets hand out those tickets to people."
Of course I ran up to the front, and was like "YES, there IS a mistake! LOOK!!!"
Needless to say, they handed them out anyways, as Christmas is approaching quickly!
After the service a friend came up to me and was like "They should always check with you before
they print anything out."
Um...yeah, except when it's me who made them and had them printed out!
You are welcome, city of Milwaukee.

Weird that both of my stories are "church" stories today.... hmmmmm...

Welcome to 50 SHADES OF STUPID!

Momma's Boy

Dear Wesley,
I am absolutely 100% totally in love with you, my first born.
I cannot believe you are 9 years old this week. Stop growing so fast. Please.
I can't even believe I am about to say this, but in a few years you will be a teenager!!!
Time is going by way too quickly.

I tell you this all the time, but you are so special to me.
The day you were born, I could not wait to hold you. Finally we had our baby in our arms.
Not only are you special because you are our first baby, but we wanted a baby so
badly and when you came, and we had a hard time, so you were God's special gift to us.
You have so much love in your heart for people. And you sure do seem like you love
Mommy so so much. I love the way you tell me I'm the best mom in the world (but Mary is too.)
Or when you tell me God gave you such a good mommy, then you give me a snuggle or a kiss.

Our hugs and our snuggle times are so precious to me. I love when we laugh together
about something super funny that one of us did. I love when you read mommy's blog
and start cracking up so hard you can hardly breathe. It makes me smile that you think
what I write about you guys is so funny. I loved our conversation the other day.
Wesley: How much is orange chicken?
Me: Um....o-r-a-n-g-e.
Wesley: What in the world?
Or when we practice your spelling bee words or memory verse and you are flipping
and bouncing all over the bedroom. You make me so happy.
We have so much fun together, don't we? I love how you beg for family movie night or
family game night so that you can hang out with mommy or daddy.

Wes, you will always always always be my little buddy no matter how much bigger than
me you get. I am so proud of you each day you come home from school with 5 out of 5
stars! I am so proud of how hard you work when you do your book reports. I know you don't
like it when I say this, but you are so smart and I want to see you continue to use that gift
and do well in school and in life. I want to see you branch out and try out for school & church plays because I know you memorize things well and aren't afraid of the stage!
Don't get lazy like mommy did in school. Work hard.

One more thing I want to tell you, Wes...

Wesley Pie, Wesley Pie I love you...yes I do!

Happy Birthday to my big 9 year old!

4. Make sure to visit some of the blogs in the link-up and maybe even follow them!
{and comments are always loved}

5. Tweet about the Mommy-Brain Mixer to help spread the word!

6. Grab this adorable button and place it somewhere on your blog!

7. Don't forget to check back throughout the week, as we gain many new links throughout the week!
